Fall
Fall is a beautiful time to row! The season starts warm with our rowers wearing tank tops and shorts as they watch the changing of colors on the Cooper River, and ends in mid-November with the potential for early snow, coaches and athletes dressed in layers. We offer both a competitive season and a non-competitive program.
Competitive Team: REGISTRATION CLOSED! This is for returning and new-to-rowing 8th-12th graders who want to bond with teammates while learning about themselves and their capabilities. The season starts in early September and runs through mid-November, including a 3-week tryout period for novices and those new to CJRC. Mandatory practices are six days a week. The emphasis for the fall season is learning, strength training, and improving technique on the water - and, of course - there will be racing!
**For U23 opportunities, please email mrc.coopercommodores@gmail.com
Middle School Program/Developmental Team: We offer a non-competitive program for middle and high school athletes who want to learn or improve their rowing/coxing technique. These classes will be held on both land and in the water. Love of the sport while learning is the main focus.
Private Lessons Available! Register today
Winter/Spring
Our Winter/Spring season is the busiest for CJRC. We run our competitive season for athletes in grades 8-12 along with our non-competitive Middle School Program (MSP) for those in grades 6-8.
Competitive Team: This program starts in early December and runs through mid-May. Attendance at practice is mandatory - rowing with CJRC's Competitive Team is a six-day-a-week commitment. This is where our motto of AMOR FIDE LABORE really shines!
Options for registering for our Competitive Team:
- Full Program (Winter/Spring): The vast majority of our athletes register for this program. This properly prepares them for the racing season in the spring.
- Spring Only: This is for select athletes who are involved in a winter sport and may not have the time to come to our winter training practices. We encourage these athletes to come to as many practices as possible during the winter to "check-in" with the coaches. Your athlete MUST be approved by the Program Director to take this route; it is only for special circumstances. You must contact mrc.coopercommodores@gmail.com to discuss this possibility.
Developmental Team & Programs: For those new to the sport or who want to continue what they've learned, CJRC offers recreational programs during the winter and spring months, focusing on the fundamentals of rowing and refining technique including proper erg use, cross-training, and water time in the spring - plus a fun introduction to CJRC's culture! These programs are open to middle and high school athletes.
